Summary

Continuing to define World-class Rare Earth Element mineralization with grades of up to 49.17 wt% TREO over 3.7 m

Appia Energy Corp., (CSE:API, OTCQB:APAAF, Germany A0I:BE, A0I:F, A0I:MU) has recently completed diamond drilling and surface exploration programs on one of the World’s highest-grade Rare Earth Element (“REE”) occurrences ever discovered.  The Alces Lake project, located in northern Saskatchewan, Canada, is an emerging critical REE project with the potential to bring high-demand and critical supply chain metals, such as neodymium (Nd), praseodymium (Pr), dysprosium (Dy) and terbium (Tb), to a growing REE market.

The individual REEs at Alces Lake are all hosted in one mineral; monazite.  Monazite is 1 of 3 REE-bearing minerals (of more than 50) that has had successful economic extraction and processing.  In fact, monazite was the first REE mineral to have commercial REE processing, and the metallurgical flow sheet has been well-established for over 50 years.  This adds to the low CAPEX requirements for the Alces Lake project going forward.

REEs are critical for our technologically evolving society.  They are used in high-tech applications such as electric vehicles (“EV”), trains, elevators, wind turbines, cell phones, computers, robotics, fridges, air conditioners, medical devices, lights… and the list goes on.

Most car manufacturers today have at least one pure electric EV and/or hybrid EV model, and are planning to increase their EV production capacity.  EVs require REEs for NiMH batteries in hybrid EV models, but most importantly REEs are required for drive motors.  Batteries are only one side of the EV story; you can’t have an efficient or effective EV without an REE-based permanent magnet motor.

Mr. James Sykes, Appia’s Vice-President, Exploration & Development, notes the Alces Lake project “contains world-class grades, with world-class potential, and our critical rare earth metals are specifically essential for contributing to the dawning EV revolution.”

About 95% of the REE end-use supply currently comes from China, and the rest of the world is uncomfortable with a monopolized supply chain which could, and has (2010-2011), affected their sustainability of sourcing REEs from China.

The Alces Lake Solution: Appia’s goal is to become a near-term profitable producer of high-grade critical REO required to supply an increasing global REO demand.
