NI 43-101 Elliot lake 2013 Update
Previous drill programs conducted in 2007-08 and 2012 aimed to confirm mineralization identified in historical resource estimates for Teasdale Lake and Banana Lake zones, 2 of 5 zones, 100% interest. Subsequent to these efforts, Appia enlisted the expertise of consulting firm Watts, Griffis and McOuat Limited (WGM) to produce an updated NI 43-101 Resource Estimate, resulting in the “2013 Updated Resource Estimate Report” filed on SEDAR.

Current Work

Appia is embarking on a reevaluation of its substantial uranium-rare earths deposits in Elliot Lake, Ontario, spurred by the surge in uranium prices and the confirmation of noteworthy rare earth element (“REE”) mineralization. The focus is on assessing the economic viability of bulk mining at the Teasdale Lake and Banana Lake Zones with an eye on potential cost savings.

Drilling Programs Confirm REE and Outlines Larger Resource in Teasdale Lake Deposit

The  2007-08 and 2012 drill programs were also carried out to determine the REE content in the various mineralized beds that comprised the Teasdale Lake deposit. Based on historical yttrium production and the presence of monazite, which is commonly enriched with REE, it was recognized by Appia that the Elliot Lake uranium deposits could contain significant REE mineralization.

The drilling programs totalled 10,780 metres and indicated that additional drilling would continue to enlarge the zones.
The drilling confirmed the presence of three mineralized units, namely the Upper Reef, Intermediate Quartzite, and the Lower Reef:
  • The 3.2 metre-thick Lower Reef horizon, which was mined extensively when the Elliot Lake camp was in production, contained significant REE mineralization and the highest uranium values.
  • The Intermediate Quartzite averaged 2.65m in thickness and was weakly mineralized with lower uranium and REE mineralization.
  • The Upper Reef, measuring 3.95m in thickness, contained the highest concentration of REE mineralization but lower uranium values compared to the Lower Reef.
  The 2013, “Updated Resource Estimate Report for the Teasdale Zone”, incorporated the significant REE mineralization in the Upper Reef and Intermediate Quartzite units as well as the higher-grade Lower Reef. The minimum vertical thickness was increased to 5.0m to accommodate the use of larger underground equipment as a cost-reduction strategy. The inclusion of all three mineralized units as well as the expansion of the minimum vertical thickness increased the resource tonnage for the Teasdale Zone to 14,435,000 Indicated tons plus 42,447,000 Inferred tons of uranium and REE mineralization versus 17,458,200 tons of uranium mineralization in the historical resource estimate. The total rare earth metal content was increased by approximately 6 times the uranium content.

2014

June

Appia staked an additional mineral claim within the Elliot Lake property, further expanding our holdings and strengthening our commitment to exploration and resource development.

2013

July

A second NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate was completed, focusing on updating the Teasdale Lake zone. This detailed assessment enhanced our understanding of the resources in this area.

2012

June to September

A total of 16 drill holes were meticulously completed from the surface in the Teasdale Lake zone. This ambitious drilling campaign reached a remarkable total depth of 8,130.2 metres, significantly advancing our geological knowledge.

2011

July

An initial NI 43-101 compliant resource estimate marked a crucial milestone, shedding light on the potential of the Teasdale Lake and Banana Lake zones. This estimation laid the foundation for further exploration.

2009 - 2004

May 2004 to December 2009

A remarkable collaboration between Appia, Canada Enerco Corporation (“CEC”), and Dan Patrie Exploration Ltd. (“DPEL”) resulted in the staking of 100 mineral claims in the Elliot Lake area. Subsequently, all claims originally secured by CEC and DPEL were consolidated under Appia’s ownership, forming the Elliot Lake property. This consolidation marked a significant step in our journey of exploration and resource development.

2008

October to December

The latter part of 2008 saw the completion of two drill holes from the surface within the Banana Lake zone. The total depth reached was 3,109.0 metres, contributing valuable geological data.

2008 - 2007

November 2007 to March 2008

During this period, Appia embarked on an ambitious exploration effort, completing 10 diamond drill holes in the Teasdale Lake and Banana Lake zones. Within this endeavor, 6 drill holes in the Teasdale Lake zone were explored, covering a total of 2,644.0 metres. Additionally, 4 wedged drill holes, derived from two historic drill holes, were examined in the Banana Lake zone, accumulating a total depth of 1,241.2 metres.

2006

All Year

A notable year for the expansion of geophysical knowledge, with the execution of airborne MEGATEM electromagnetic and magnetic surveys by Fugro Airborne Surveys, as well as a ground dipole-dipole IP test survey conducted by Gradient Geophysics Inc. These surveys significantly contributed to our geological understanding.

Location

The town of Elliot Lake is located in northern Ontario.  By road, the town is 30 km N of the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 17), 168 km W of the nickel-mining district of Sudbury, ON. 201 km E of Sault Ste. Marie, ON, the gateway to Michigan, USA, and 58 km NE of Blind River, ON, where Cameco operates the world’s largest commercial uranium refinery.

The Elliot Lake uranium-REE property comprises a group of 101 staked mineral claims, approximately 3km north of the town of Elliot Lake.

Ownership & Size

Appia holds full ownership of the Elliot Lake property, encompassing around 13,008 hectares (32,143 acres).

Mineral Host Formation

The uranium and REE metals are hosted within well-sorted, coarse-pebble conglomerate beds in the Matinenda Formation, the basal unit of the Elliot Lake Group.

Strategic Location

The Elliot Lake Property is situated adjacent to Denison Mines Corp. and Rio Algom Limited, former uranium and REE mines, enhancing its strategic position.

Resource Expansion Potential

The property exhibits substantial potential for resource expansion, given the openness of current resources along strike and at depth.

Historic Production

The Elliot Lake mining camp has a notable history, having yielded over 300 million lbs of U3O8 and stands as Canada’s sole mining camp with significant historical commercial rare earth element production (yttrium).

Metallurgical Testing

Comprehensive metallurgical testing utilizing diverse process methods reveals promising recovery rates, with uranium at approximately 90% and most REE ranging from 80% to 90%.
